Cake Push-ups: The latest trend in cakes

I'm trying to figure out what type of cake to serve for my daughter's birthday party.  A whole cake is super simple, cupcakes are fun for little hands, but then I thought about serving cake shooters.  After looking around for a few ideas, I stumble across this blog with a tutorial for cake push-ups.  I've heard of the concept before but had no idea where to go to buy the containers.  The blog has a link, plus some beautiful pictures.  It also advised that you need to push up slowly or else the cake will fly everywhere.  So I'm scratching the idea simply because this is a party for four and five-year-olds.  But the tutorial is still worthy of a mention.  Simply divine! Cake Push-up tutorial

Plant vs. Zombies birthday Party

If you are a big fan of Plant vs. Zombies, then you know how difficult it is to get licensed merchandise, if not nearly impossible.  Luckily, we have some connections at Pop Cap and, with the help of Uncle Eddie, we were able to make the them happen! The cake was an instant sensation and I had to watch the looting... Kids were going crazy over what the considered, and I quote, "The coolest cake [they've] ever seen."  I felt like the coolest mom for about 15 minutes.  Then I went back to reality.  But in my defense, I have never before heard so many 7 year-olds complimenting a cake at a birthday party.
In any case, Uncle Eddie hooked us up with some official Pop Cap merchandise that included three Zombie figurines, a few stickers, and a bad ass T-shirt.  The cake was purchased at Costco and we decorated it with some printed pictures and the PvZ figurines.  Jake got all decked-out sporting his blingy PvZ shirt.  The party was a hit!  Thanks to all the parents and friends for making it a memorable one.  I'm sure he will not stop talking about it for weeks to come.  We enjoyed bowling, arcade games, pizza and a 10 lb cake (of which 2 lbs were left over and now sit somewhere in between my hips and my waistline.  :)

Fit for a princess

A few pictures, courtesy of my friend Angie.  Isabella loves dressing up, and during a visit to her BFF's house, she was able to try on some really cute outfits.  As a little girls I never had the opportunity to sport such outfits.  I don't think they were available like they are today, to the masses.  I think it is wonderful how her imaginations can run wild.  And feeling beautiful is only an outfit away.

Good bye, my love!

I will miss this little guy (ok, not so little when you are 12 ft tall Christmas tree)! But the ornaments where a small splurge and so far I've only broken about 4 in the three years I've had them. So in my books, that's a pretty good record. :)

This is the year... I will celebrate someone's birthday...

So this year, after many years of procrastination, I have finally given in to the idea of throwing a party for Isabella. It is in two weeks and haven't done much, but I did make this cute little thing using my Cricut.
Disclaimer: the reason I've been slow at organizing the parties is not that I don't like celebrating my daughter's birthday.  It is simply the fact that it is right after the holidays and I'm usually exhausted!
